Prepare PDF flashcards for a Knowt workflow
If you study in Knowt, separate card creation from account transfer. PDFtoDeck can turn a short PDF section into editable questions and answers. It does not log into Knowt or sync a set there. The useful output is a reviewed pair of fields that you can transfer using a method your account supports.
Choose content that survives transfer
Start with a definition, distinction or short explanation rather than an entire page of notes. Keep question fronts self-contained, because the destination will not necessarily show the PDF heading beside them. Replace vague references such as this diagram or the process above with the actual concept name. This makes the cards usable even if you copy only their plain text.
Check the destination before exporting
Inspect the import or set-creation options currently available in your Knowt account. If a supported text import accepts question-and-answer pairs, use the matching export and check a two-card preview. Otherwise, create cards manually from the reviewed draft. CSV and tab-separated text are available in PDFtoDeck, but their availability does not establish a Knowt integration or a particular import entitlement.
Worked example: two focused cards
These original editorial examples illustrate question design. They are not a live AI conversion or an official question bank. Use the wording and scope of your own source when editing a generated deck.
- What should a portable card front contain?
- The named concept and a precise question that makes sense outside the PDF.
- What is the first transfer check?
- Confirm that question and answer fields appear on the intended sides.
Verify the transferred set
Compare the first and last transferred cards with your edited source deck. Look for reversed fronts and backs, missing line breaks and duplicate entries. Keep a CSV backup so you can correct the content without regenerating the same PDF. If your source includes a chart or image, write the required relationship in words or add a permitted illustration inside the destination yourself.
Convert, check, then study
- Prepare a short PDF excerpt with the relevant text near the beginning. Upload it using the PDFtoDeck generator; check that the selected pages contain the topic you intend to study.
- Generate an AI draft, then read every question and answer against the source. Correct missing conditions, split overloaded answers and remove unsupported details before treating the deck as study material.
- Use Study now for a review session, download an Anki .apkg deck or CSV, or copy tab-separated text for Quizlet. Choose an export your destination can actually import and test a small set before moving a larger deck.
Limits, cost and document handling
Free generation includes 3 conversions per day, the first 5 PDF pages per conversion and up to 20 cards. Pro costs $3.99/mo or $29.99/yr. A generated deck can miss concepts or contain errors; use your source to decide what belongs in the final set.
The browser reads your PDF; clear English scans use on-device OCR. Extracted text is sent to the PDFtoDeck server and DeepSeek for AI generation. Process documents you have permission to use, keep sensitive information out of uploads and check the privacy policy for details.
Questions about this workflow
Does PDFtoDeck send cards directly to Knowt?
No. Generate and edit here, then use a transfer method supported by your destination account or enter the cards manually.
What if my account has no suitable import option?
Keep the reviewed CSV as a backup and transfer a small set manually. Do not assume that a button described in an older tutorial is still available.
